ESSEX TEACHING AWARDS

HRS Recognised with ‘Highly Commended’ Status for Making a Difference in Secondary Education

We are delighted to share that it has been recognised at the prestigious Essex Teaching Awards 2026, held on Wednesday 17th 2026, as Highly Commended for Making a Difference in a Secondary School of the Year.  This award celebrates secondary schools that transform lives of students and enrich the community, modelling excellent secondary education.

The award was given through the difference Helena Romanes School makes to individual lives.

During the awards ceremony, the audience were told that: “for students and families, this is a school that goes the extra mile—whether that’s through targeted support,  responsive teaching, or simply being there when it matters most. From after-school revision sessions to late-night reassurance, staff show an unwavering commitment to helping every student succeed.

The impact is clear. Students grow in confidence, overcome barriers, and achieve far beyond expectations—whether that’s significant academic progress or finding the support they need to feel safe, understood and ready to learn”.

Catherine Davis, Executive Headteacher said: “"This recognition is a testament to the tireless dedication of our entire staff. Whether it’s staying late for after-school revision sessions or providing reassurance to a family in need, our team is completely unwavering in their commitment to helping every single student succeed."

Essex County Council introduced The Essex Teaching Awards to give the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the inspirational work of early years and childcare practitioners, teachers and school staff within Essex.
