Changing schools is scary but be confident and you will make friends. Enjoy the opportunities you have while you are here for example getting to know students in other year groups through after school clubs and trips. Trips I have been on include one to Imperial War Museum, Duxford, a Geography trip to a local farm and the ski trip to Austria. Choosing your options is a hard decision but your teachers and your parents can always help you. At the end of the year we have an Awards Evening, the Rewards Trip and some subjects send letters home to your parents if you have done really well.

Keely, Year 9

The school is really good – it feels big when you start but you soon get to know your way around. HRS helps you prepare well for your future – whatever it may be. You can see the Careers Advisor if you need help choosing your options. My favourite subjects are Maths, ICT, Spanish and Design and Technology.

There are many different extra-curricular clubs available. I took part in the Great British Space Dinner competition. We use the Learning Zone for homework and can take on-line quizzes on the books we have read.

There is nothing to worry about coming to HRS – you soon get used to things and end up having lots of fun. School is good because you get excited about all the new experiences you gain at Secondary School

I was anxious about coming to secondary school on my own – I was worried about not making friends. When I arrived, I looked around and thought ‘wow! Where do I go first?’ My Form Tutor collected me and welcomed me into my form group with eagerness. They were all really friendly and I made friends straight away! I belong to lots of after school clubs including: Gifted and Talented Drama, Hockey, Swimming, Writing, and Netball. Taking part in these clubs means I now know many different people here, which makes my school experience even better.

I am very glad I chose HRS.

Coming to The Helena Romanes School Open Morning made me realise why I wanted to come here. The students and staff were very helpful and answered all my questions – they made me feel at ease. The induction days helped me to understand what I needed to do in Year 7 and I even learnt my way around! We saw what the lessons would be like here which made me even more excited. The best part is my form tutor – she is really nice and answers all my questions.
