Mr Lee Cooke – Director of Sixth Form
Further to the Government’s update last month, please may we remind you that students (with the exception of those who are exempt) must bring face masks with them to school and that face masks should be worn inside school buildings, with the exception of when in classrooms and when eating/drinking. It is also a requirement to wear a face mask on the school buses. Students who are exempt from wearing a face mask have been issued with an exemption card.
Thank you for your support.
HRS (Primary Phase)
After months of anticipation, the children of Helena Romanes School – Primary Phase were delighted to move into our new building and over the past weeks it has been a pleasure to welcome representatives from our local nursery schools to our open evenings and give tours to many families within the community.
Our pupils (and staff!) have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating the festive season in our new setting and all that this encompasses. We were proud to perform our Christmas Concert for families, which included original choreography, festive songs and a beautiful rendition of ‘Sing A Rainbow’ incorporating Makaton. Our resident elf, Twinkletoes, has also been making merry mayhem, much to the amusement of our pupils!
As well as festive fun, the Christmas season is also an opportunity for us to connect with our community and instil in the children the values of kindness and charity. Alongside our Year 7 and 8 Ambassador students, the Primary children have been busily creating 500 personalised Christmas cards and packaging presents for our local Care Home residents and people using Food Banks. We hope that this small act of kindness will bring joy and comfort to some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
We wish our pupils, parents, colleagues and carers a wonderful Christmas, and hope that the New Year brings health and happiness and prosperity to all in our community.
“The excitement from when the bus left HRS to take us on our first drama trip since covid-19, was amazing. Though we had to wear masks it was worth it. Life of Pi was stunning, the way the actors used their physical and performance skills throughout the play was beautiful. From the use of dance to musical transitions, to the use of lighting to create tension and the emotion projected onto the audience. I think that it is one of the best plays I have ever seen, though I have not seen many. I loved the way that the animals were life size puppets. For me, it really enhanced the play and made the audience feel like they were not controlled by the actors: The clever use of costume allowed us to suspend disbelief. It also helped the animals to have status – particularly when the tiger jumped in the cliffhanger of act 1. Overall, the play was amazing as it was a colourful representation of life in the 1970s picturesque South Indian coastal town of Pondicherry.”
