Media Trip

Mrs Stewart and her team took Year 9 to 13 Media students on a trip to Madame Tussauds and The London Dungeons last Friday.  Here’s what one of our students said about the trip:

“Last Friday we went on a media studies trip to Madame Tussauds and The London Dungeons. The Dungeons explored the historical contexts of villains and their gruesome punishments.  Acting and technical spectacles made us scared and excited – something to think about when we start our actual film trailer practical exams in Year 10. We all enjoyed ourselves a lot and had such a good time, whilst learning.

“Madame Tussauds showed us many famous media personalities, from films, television shows, music and radio – the impact of celebrities on our lives. It was a lot of fun taking pictures with all of the stars and they looked surprisingly realistic and also contained a lot of useful information to do with their fame and popularity. On the way back to the coach we went to 221b Baker Street and saw a little display for Sherlock Holmes, one of the most famous fictional characters in the media. Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience and we cannot wait for the next one.”

The Helena Romanes Annual Quiz

Our first Helena Romanes Primary School Quiz’ took place on Tuesday 30th November via zoom, produced and hosted by our Head Students Maisie Francis and Ellis McQuade.  All primary teams worked well together and enjoyed taking part. Despite a very close finish, it was Great Dunmow Primary School who won the shield. We will be running this event next year and hope to host the quiz on site in the future. Congratulations to the winners and the runners up Takeley Primary School.

We know there are many young people who deserve recognition. These awards are for those young people who have gone above and beyond what might be expected of them. Young people achieve in lots of ways; this can include overcoming personal challenges and adversity, achieving sporting and musical success as well as by volunteering and making a difference within their community.

Gifts for Croft House Care Home

Our Year 7 Ambassadors are once again asking their fellow Year 7 students to bring in donations that can be wrapped and taken to the residents of Croft House Care home for Christmas. They have also asked the students in the Reception class to help out with donations.

They would welcome edible Christmas gifts (date to be after December 2021), books, puzzle books, socks, gloves, gift sets or anything else that would be suitable to gift to a male or female resident.

All gifts should be dropped off at student reception where they will be collected and wrapped ready to be taken to Croft House.

Thank you.
