Gifts for Croft House Care Home

Our Year 7 Ambassadors are once again asking their fellow Year 7 students to bring in donations that can be wrapped and taken to the residents of Croft House Care home for Christmas. They have also asked the students in the Reception class to help out with donations.

They would welcome edible Christmas gifts (date to be after December 2021), books, puzzle books, socks, gloves, gift sets or anything else that would be suitable to gift to a male or female resident.

All gifts should be dropped off at student reception where they will be collected and wrapped ready to be taken to Croft House.

Thank you.

Uttlesford Foodbank

There are just 10 school days left to bring in your donations for the HRS collection for the Foodbank. All donations need to be in school by Friday 10th December so we can deliver them on time.

A reminder of the items required can be found on the attached list. Students can bring the donations to the Learning Zone where we will store them. As always your help is greatly appreciated.

Year 8 Maths Assessments

On Wednesday 1st December all of Year 8 will be sitting an assessment during their maths lesson. This will be to assess the content they have learnt so far in their maths lessons. If students wish to revise, they should use their class books to see the topics learned and relevant modelling, alongside the Memri tasks on hegartymaths.com and any homework tasks.

Please can I take this opportunity to remind students to attend with the correct equipment (pen, pencil, ruler, eraser, pencil sharpener and a calculator for sets one and two).

Cross Country:
On Tuesday 16th November we took six teams to the Bishop’s Stortford District Cross Country Championships. The teams from Years 7, 8 and 9 competed very well. We had one individual entry from Year 10 who was Joe Squire who came in overall 11th place.

The students had a great day and were a pleasure to take and we took great pride in the manner they supported and cheered for one another. This bodes well for the future as it is a few years since we have entered the District Cross Country event. The final team positions and squads are below:

• Year 7 Girls: 4th
• Year 7 Boys: 2nd
• Year 8 Girls: 6th

U14 and U16 Netball Essex Cup results:
Prior to half term and in the last couple of weeks both the U14 and U16 teams have been training hard and preparing for their next matches in the Cup.

The U14’s are a brand new team set up this year, combining both Year 8 and Year 9 students.

In round 1 the U14 team beat Passmores Academy with a convincing win away from home.
In round 2 they faced St Mark’s (also a team from Harlow) and again it was an away fixture. A strong St Mark’s team came out winners. For a newly formed squad they have developed their team work and really started to gel as a team.

U14 team – E Williams (capt); C Sayer; G Taylor; C Moore; E Major; L Neville; M Akers; E Somaroo and E Perry.

The U16 team received a bye in round 1 and then were drawn against Mossbourne Academy in Hackney. After a long coach journey, the girls started well and were up after the first 3 ¼’s. In the last ¼ we lost our concentration and it became a very close game. However, we switched on and regained our form to win the match. Their next match is against Brampton Manor School. Congratulations on the first round match.

U16 team – G Croxson (Capt); M Lewin; K Oliver; E Stone; M Herd; E Andrews; E Connett; C Goodey and M Bowman.

Sixth Form Football:
After a few defeats in their past few matches the Sixth Form squad’s training and commitment came to fruition against Gable Hall this week. They ran out winners in their second home game 5-1.

Thank you to staff and coaches Mr M Richardson (of MR F.A. Coaching) and Mr R Hore for encouraging the squad and ensuring they attend regular training sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays. Well done all!

Students Needing to Leave School During the Day

If at any point during the school day your child needs to leave school for a medical appointment or any other reason, they must have a signed note from their parent/carer or a copy of an appointment, which they must keep on them to show to their class teacher and Student Reception in order for them to sign out of school.

Thank you.
