Remembrance
To mark the start of the two minute silence at HRS at 11.00am on Remembrance Day, Year 9 student, Thomas, performed The Last Post on his trumpet. This was a moving tribute to remember all those who lost their lives during the wars.

On Sunday, Mr Foster, Deputy Headteacher, together with the Head Students will lay a poppy wreath on behalf of Helena Romanes School at the war memorial in Dunmow High Street.

Sixth Form Open Evening – Monday 22nd November 2021

Year 11 students are invited to our Sixth Form information evening, which takes place on Monday 22nd November from 5.30pm to 8.00pm. In order to make the experience as comfortable as possible for both guests and staff, we are putting the following arrangements in place.

There will be two presentations from the Headteacher and Director of Sixth Form. These presentations last for 30 minutes and are scheduled for one at 6.00pm and the second at 7.00pm.

In addition, subject teachers for each subject we offer will be in school to share information and answer any questions. Presentations will be given every 15 minutes to minimise the number of people in each room. This allows you to see the main presentation and visit up to six subjects over the course of the evening.

Physical Education Faculty: Year 7 & 8 District Rugby

Year 8
Thursday 4th November saw the Year 8 Rugby team take part in their first rugby tournament representing HRS and they did themselves and the school proud. Playing against some strong opposition, the team got off to a great start beating the hosts 10-0 and a hard fought draw before playing the two strongest teams in the competition.

The squad bounced back showing an eagerness to improve while listening carefully to feedback to get back into winning ways. The boys ended up with the following results:

Won 4
Drew 1
Lost 3

• Leventhorpe Won 10-0
• Hockerill Drew 0-0
• Saffron Walden Lost 20-0
• Bishop’s Stortford High Lost 20 – 0
• St Mary’s Won 10 -0
• Joyce Frankland Lost 5-0
• Birchwood Won 5 -0
• Edwinstree Won 25 -5

Despite some very cold windy weather the team played some great rugby and made massive improvements on previous performances. Well done!!

The players of the tournament were:

• Forwards: Gene Hancock
• Backs: Lennon Childs
• Tackle of the day: Alfie Halls

The Year 8 squad:

Year 7
It has been two great weeks of fixtures for our Year 7 rugby side. It has been brilliant to see the togetherness, effort and encouragement between each of them.

On Friday 5th November we took a squad of 15 players to the Bishop’s Stortford District Rugby tournament and played eight games of rugby against local schools. The results of the tournament are below:

• St. Mary’s Won (5-0)
• Hockerill Lost (0-5)
• Saffron Walden Drew (0-0)
• Joyce Frankland Lost (10-0)
• Birchwood Lost (5-10)
• Leventhorpe Lost (5-0)
• Edwinstree Won (25-0)

On Tuesday 9th November we had another squad of 18 Year 7’s and some Year 8 students playing together. This was a home fixture against Tabor Academy. The score was 20-15 to Tabor.

The boys should be proud of their achievements and owe much to their commitment to training every Thursday after school since the start of term.
