HRS Primary Phase

After a fun-filled Halloween Half Term, both the pupils and staff of HRS Primary Phase are delighted and excited to be back at school. This is always an extra-special time in the school calendar, as we look forward to a plethora of festivities including: Fireworks, Nativity Plays, Christingle Services and Christmas Celebrations. We can’t wait to share the magic of the season with our pupils and families.

And with our new building just days away from completion, the joy just keeps growing! The finishing touches are being applied to the school, and we will begin to move into our classrooms very soon. Once settled, we will all look forward to welcoming children, carers and colleagues to explore and enjoy our wonderful school. Watch this space for more details of the Grand Opening!

Physical Education Faculty: Year 9 District Rugby, Tuesday 2nd November

On Tuesday we took a squad of 14 players to the Bishop’s Stortford District Rugby tournament and played eight games of rugby against local schools. We won four; drew one and lost three games.

The Year 9 squad did the school proud as in the last three games we only had 12 fit players owing to injuries. The boys got stuck in and showed much resilience in their last three games and won one; lost one (to the overall eventual winners) and drew their last game.

The full results are below and the boys should be proud of their achievements and owe much to their commitment to training every Thursday after school since the start of term, well done!

• St. Mary’s 5-0 L
• Hockerill 5-15 W
• Saffron Walden 20-0 L
• Freman 0-5 W
• Joyce Franklin 0-5 W
• Birchwood 0-15 W
• TBSHS 20-0 L
• Leventhorpe 5-5 D

The Year 9 squad: Connor Wardley, Jack Hollins, Max Glodowski, Joe Rush, Russell Littler, Will Lewis-Dale (Year 10), Rufus Gray, Evan McQuade, Thomas Layzell, Archie Mansfield, Sam Andrews, Sam Miller, Oliver Hill, Bobbie Martin.

Year 12

This week we were able to welcome an external speaker into the sixth form as part of the 16-19 work related learning curriculum.

The session was delivered by a company called Wizeup who are funded by the Saffron Building Society and focussed on the importance of making “strong first impressions”. The session covered interview technique and the compilation of effective curriculum vitae.

The session was very well received with a dynamic blend of factual information, visual representations and presenter/student discussion.

Year 13

Potential university students have been working very hard on completing their UCAS (University, College Admissions Service) applications; the school internal deadline for completed applications is Friday 12th November 2021 by which time students should have completed their personal details, educational profile, a maximum of five university choices and their personal statement. Year 13 tutors are now compiling final references, our aim being to have completed the application process by 30th November 2021, allowing students to focus on reaching their full potential to achieve their post sixth form goals and aspirations.

For non-university applicants the focus in the Spring term will be on apprenticeship and employment opportunities as appropriate. Students should be encouraged to engage fully with our Unifrog digital careers platform where they can research entry requirements, live opportunities and personalised progression routes post sixth form.
