Weekly News Bulletin: 9 July 2021

End of term arrangements
Term will end at 12.45pm on Thursday 22nd July 2021. Any students who travel on dedicated school transport will be able to catch their bus from school at this time. Our canteens will be open during break times, as normal.

Year 6 Tours
Following such a disrupted year, we have been unable to run our usual Year 6 transition events. Instead, we have invited bubbles of Year 6 students from individual primary schools to take a tour of the school and meet their new Head of Year. In addition, we also ran our Y6 Transition Evening virtually to give both parents and students a flavour of life at HRS. It has been a pleasure to meet the Year 6 students and we look forward to them all joining us in September.

Jess Gillam Music Workshop at Saffron Hall
Year 10 GCSE music students took part in a musical workshop by Jess Gillam at Saffron Hall last Friday.

Jess Gillam is a young outstanding saxophone player with 500,000 followers. She performs at home and internationally and we were fortunate enough to be invited to this workshop. Our students were greatly inspired by her musical skill, knowledge and enthusiasm resulting in some of them aspiring to follow in her footsteps. The students asked Jess many musical questions and she was equally impressed by their love for the subject and hunger to advance their musical learning.

Following the success of this workshop, it was agreed that another musical workshop would be arranged next year at HRS.

Year 7 and 8 Inter-form Competition
Over the last term Years 7 and 8 have been participating in athletics, cricket, football and rounders activities as part of their Core Physical Education Curriculum. From Thursday 15th July both year groups will be involved in an interform competition involving three sports: cricket, football and rounders.

Each form group will organise their squads for each sport and compete against other forms in their half of the year.

Points will be awarded to each team and then added together for each sport to give an overall total for each form.

All students will be involved as players, supporters, coaches and referees and will need their normal PE kit for their PE lessons as usual.

Once again thank you for your support

Mr K Cheema
Physical Education Faculty.

News from the Learning Zone
The Learning Zone is suitably bedecked for the European Championships with bunting around the staff desk and hanging from the ceiling.

We are showcasing our football books which are always popular but at this time there is a renewed interest amongst students and staff alike.

Good luck England!
