Young Carers Week 27th to 31st January 2020
During Young Carers Week we have been raising awareness of young carers and their roles and responsibilities in our year group assemblies. This has been done with the help and assistance of our own young carers.

We recently formed a young carers club, run by one of our pastoral team, Mrs Atkinson, this meets regularly to help and support those who are identified as young carers. During lunchtimes the students made ribbons to sell as part of the Young Carers Week celebrations. Money raised will go towards an organised trip for the members of the club in recognition of their dedication.

Mrs Atkinson said: “Our students who are young carers are truly amazing people and are true heroes, as a school community we are all very proud of them.”

As part of the pastoral support we give students at HRS, the school has recently been awarded the Essex County Council Bronze Award for Young Carers. Our Child Protection Officer, Miss Brammer has been the lead in ensuring we were able to meet all the necessary criteria. The school is now working towards the Silver Award.

Sporting News
The Helena Romanes School retained its overall title for the second year running at the annual BS&D swimming gala held on Thursday 23rd January at the Bishop’s Stortford College.

The girls and boys squads finished in second place overall. All the squads fully contributed to the overall school points total but the senior boys and girls should be very proud of their overall points score as well as the performances in the relays where every team brought home points. A huge congratulations to Jack and Maddie, the team captains, who have represented the school for the last five years.

The students were a credit to their school and their swim clubs and plaudits must go to the Dunmow Atlantis (where the majority of our students attend), Braintree and Bocking and The Bishop Stortford Swimming Club. Our students regularly swim early mornings every week and to win this competition two years in a row is testament to their passion and dedication to the sport. We would also like to thank the parents for their support.

Calling all Business Leaders and Employers
Our year 12 students have the opportunity to complete one week’s external work experience as part of their work related learning programme. All students are encouraged to find a placement within a field of interest for a career either after A levels or university.

If anyone is able to offer or consider a placement/s for the week beginning 13th to 17th July 2020 I would be very grateful if you could contact me via email at dwright@hrs.education at your earliest convenience.

Please be assured that the school will carry out its obligation to check the validity of any business opportunity and ensure that the necessary insurance and liability documents are up to date.
