Email Message regarding Online Sexual Abuse
Further to the important safeguarding message sent yesterday (see below), please note the email was sent with a personalised header which was specific to each parent. This in no way implicates your child’s involvement in the incident. Should this ever be the case then you would be contacted directly by a member of staff.

Incident of Online Sexual Abuse
We have been made aware of an incident of online sexual abuse, the victim being a fairly young child using the teen dating website ‘ourteennetwork.com’. Once the contact was made on that website, typically, the child was directed to Snapchat where the abuse took place before parents noticed a change in the child’s behaviour and intercepted what was happening. The matter is being dealt with by the Police. There was also evidence of use of an adult live sex webcam site called ‘chaturbate’. Please ensure your children are not using these sites.

Please be aware these incidents do happen – it is imperative that you monitor your child’s online activity on desktops, laptops and all mobile devices, and that all devices have security settings, and parental controls appropriate to their age. If you notice a change in your child’s behaviour, be mindful that they could be ‘in trouble’ or unsafe online.

If you are worried about your child, or any other child, please be reminded that we have a dedicated email address worrybox@hrs.education which goes straight to our Safeguarding Leads, Mr S Emberton and Miss L Brammer. We can also be contacted by telephone at the school via main reception.
Mr S Emberton – Assistant Headteacher/Safeguarding Lead

News from the Learning Zone
Please be aware that the deadline for our Scholastic Book Club has changed. The latest date you can place your order at http://schools.scholastic.co.uk/the-helena-romanes is now December 5th 2018. If you haven’t ordered yet, why not take a look at some of the great offers across a huge range of titles. Every order earns free books for our school.

Overdue Resources
Currently there are books to the value of £795.78 overdue from the Learning Zone. Students in Years 7 & 8 are reminded during their Learning Zone lesson and we have emailed older students who have overdue books. All books are issued for two weeks and have the date they should be returned by stamped in the front. We will be setting up Overdue Loan returns on Show my Homework to help alleviate the large number of overdue resources. If a student has an overdue book they will receive ‘homework’ to return it. All books can be renewed for a further two weeks. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Foodbank Collection
Please send your items into school before Friday 14th December when we will be delivering to the Food Bank. Thank you to those who have already donated.

Items requested: – Tins of: ham, salmon, tuna, complete meals, potatoes, soup, and fruit. long life fruit juice, custard, coffee, tea, jam, jelly, pasta & cooking sauces, Christmas pudding, savoury biscuits & crisps, boxes of chocolates, Christmas cake, yule log, Christmas crackers, part-baked bread rolls, mince pies, stuffing, gravy & sauces.
Thank you.
