Weekly News Bulletin: 19 March 2018

Elliot Peters
Following the very sad and unexpected loss of one of our students, Elliot Peters last week, Elliot’s mother, Mrs Storey, has asked us to let everyone know how grateful they are as a family for all of the support and flowers they have received.

In celebration of Elliot’s life, we are currently sourcing charity awareness ribbons for students and staff to wear in exchange for a donation to the Great Ormond Street Hospital. These will be available from the middle of next week.
Thank you for your support during this very sad time.

Year 7 MFL Sponsored Spell
Thank you to the many parents and students who have brought or sent money into school to support our sponsored children. Please could any remaining money be sent into school by Friday 23rd March.

Year 11 MFL GCSE Oral Exams
These will be held on Monday 30th April and Tuesday 1st May 2018.
Students will have presentations to prepare and work to revise!
We would like to remind parents that although these exams are sat individually, the dates and times are as fixed for the student as if they were sitting a full written paper in the exams hall. If a student is too ill to attend school on that day, then a Doctor’s note should be submitted so that we can make representation to the Exam Board.
Thank you!
Mrs N Graves – Head of MFL

Tesco Bags of Help Scheme – Under the Microscope
Please may we remind you about the success of our recent application to Tesco for the ‘Under the Microscope’ project.

Customers can now vote at the Tesco store in Great Dunmow until Monday 30th April 2018. Please help us to win the vote by placing the blue token given out at the checkouts in the HRS ‘Under the Microscope’ voting box at the front of the store.

The awarded money will be used to provide extra microscopes and equipment for use in lessons, science club and our open days. We want to inspire potential biologists, environmentalists and scientists by making science fun through opening up the amazing microscopic world around us. Using microscopes and gaining new microscope skills, our budding scientists will look at what distinguishes different materials like fabric and paper and discover what lurks in the likes of soil, water or a jar of dry yeast. Their curiosity will be limited only by their imagination….
Thank you for your support!

Lost Property
The following items have gone into lost property this week:

• A watch
• Two pairs of glasses
• A bracelet
• A set of keys
• A phone which has been here for a while.

If your son/daughter has lost any of the above items, please ask them to come to Student Reception.

If your son/daughter has left their bag in the upper dining hall or anywhere around school, please ask them to speak to Student Reception as these areas are going to be cleared during the Easter holidays. Lastly, if your daughter has a black ‘New Look’ jacket, please check it is theirs as one has been left at school not belonging to a student who has lost hers so we believe the wrong jacket may have been taken home by mistake!
Thank you.
