Early School Closure – Tuesday 20th December 2016
Please may I remind parents/carers that school will close early on Tuesday 20th December at 1.25pm. Lunch will be available at break time for those students who would like to eat something. The school buses will collect students at 1.25pm to take them home.
Holiday Dates 2017-18
I would like to thank parents and staff who responded to my request earlier this term for feedback about the two week October half-term.
The response from parents and staff was overwhelmingly positive so the decision was taken at the Full Governing Body meeting this week to have another two-week October half-term next year. Please note the extra days will be after the October holiday instead of before. My reasoning for this is to even up the half-terms to two 7-week terms. I list below the holiday dates for 2017-18:
|Non Student Days:||Thursday 31 August 2017 and Friday 1 September 2017|
|Half Term Holiday:||Saturday 21 October 2017 to Sunday 5 November 2017 inclusive|
|Christmas Holiday:||Thursday 21 December 2017 to Monday 1 January 2018 inclusive|
|Non Student Day:||Tuesday 2 January 2018|
|Half Term Holiday:||Saturday 10 February 2018 to Sunday 18 February 2018 inclusive|
|Easter Holiday:||Friday 30 March 2018 to Sunday 15 April 2018 inclusive|
|Bank Holiday:||Monday 7 May 2018|
|Half Term Holiday:||Saturday 26 May 2018 to Sunday 3 June 2018 inclusive|
|Summer Holiday:||Saturday 21 July 2018|

Join our Year 7 Science Club – Tuesday 3.15pm – 4.15pm in A09
Each half term we run a different six-week Science Club.
In the next club we are looking for 15 keen Scientists who are interested in exploring issues about our food, our health and our planet in “The Crunch Project” which looks at common but precious resources- land, water and bees.
You will start with the opportunity to grow plants hydroponically and will look at local and global water use. You will explore chicken and human health in relation to micro-organisms. Learn and use microbiological techniques and look at alternative protein sources.
This club is a must for keen microbiologists in Year 7. Make sure you get your application to Mrs Greaves-Park in the Science office as soon as possible as places are limited to the first 15 students who return their slips signed by parents. You will be told if your application is successful when we come back to school after Christmas. The club will start on Tuesday 10th January 2017.

MFL – Year 7 students
After Christmas the Year 7 classes will be rearranged into sets. These will still contain quite a wide ability range and we will cover the same work in all sets. The students will be informed at the first lesson back after the holiday so it would be extremely helpful if they could bring in all their MFL books on that day. They will be given new teachers and told which lessons will be for each language.

Parent Information Guide for PEGI Ratings
Please check pegi ratings of any games that may be given to your children as presents this Christmas. Some of the higher age rated games, such as Grand Theft Auto, contain graphic and realistic scenes of a sexual/pornographic nature and may contain extreme physical and sexual violence. They are totally unsuitable for under 18’s.
Further information about pegi ratings can be found by clicking on the following link: http://parentinfo.org/article/pegi-games-ratings-explained
