The HRS PTA would like to say a huge thank you to Dunmow Fencing Supplies who have very kindly donated a wonderful shed to HRS for use to store the equipment for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. Without such generosity the equipment would have become damaged in a shed no longer fit for purpose. The PTA along with the staff and DofE E students are very grateful.

Important Diary Date – FINAL REMINDER
“The Dangers of Strangers in 2016”
We are pleased to announce that on Wednesday 16th November from 7pm – 9pm there will be a presentation in the school hall for parents and carers, presented by two highly acclaimed E-Safety Training leaders from CEOPS (Child Exploitation & Online Protection). The presenters, often known as ‘the two Johns’ are experts in this field and lead the training of child protection-staff, teachers, parents and students across the country.
The E Safety experts will also be delivering sessions to all students during the day on the Monday 14th November and Tuesday 15th November and we are sure you will hear all about it from your children.
Please do not bring children to the parent sessions.
Further information is attached on the E-Safety Training flyer.
In order to help fund this vital training we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £1 per child payable via ParentPay (ParentPay will accept a payment of £1). No child will be refused training because circumstances prevent payment. The parent session is free of charge. The hall has a maximum capacity of 250 places so spaces are limited.
To register for a place on the parent session on Weds 16th November from 7pm-9pm please telephone 01371 872560 and speak to reception or e-mail email@example.com. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis and are limited to three adults per family.
Thank you in anticipation for your support with the online safety of your children.
Mr S Emberton – Assistant Headteacher/Lead Child Protection
Notice from English
We are missing a number of novels from English, notably:
- Fallen Grace
- Black Hearts in Battersea
- Noughts and Crosses
We would be most grateful if you could have a look through your son/daughter’s school things and return any books you find belonging to the school. They are easily identifiable because they have a ‘Helena Romanes’ stamp at the front.
They can be returned to the English office or Mrs Romain on reception.

Outstanding Pupil Achievement
Congratulations also to Matt Green (12JF) who recently competed in the Welwyn Garden City Junior Open Golf Tournament; he shot a gross 69 (-1) finishing second on count back.
Then last week he played in the Hertfordshire County U16 Championships at Harpenden Common and won the event with a gross 68 (-2). This followed his performance in the same event last year when he won the U15 category and played in the Bishop’s Stortford GC junior competition and shot a gross 70 (-1). Three consecutive rounds under par was a tremendous achievement and he now plays off a handicap of 1.8.

Students’ Phoning Home
Please remind you son/daughter that if they are unwell and feel they need to go home, they must not call a parent/carer to arrange this themselves – this is due to safeguarding issues surrounding who a student is calling to collect them. They should go to Student Reception to be assessed by the First Aider who will contact a known parent/carer who is listed on the student’s contacts, if it is felt they need to go home.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Easter Ski Trip
Places are still available for the school ski trip to Austria during the first week of the Easter holiday. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop new skills and experience a new environment. The trip is aimed at students who have and have not skied before. As well as skiing we have a full programme of other activities.
