Holiday Dates 2015-16
I would like to thank parents and staff who responded to my request earlier this term for feedback about the two week October half-term.
The reason for the two-week half-term was to improve learning through greater student attendance and a reduction in staff absence. In comparison with last year, both these indicators show an improvement.
The response from parents and staff was overwhelmingly positive so the decision was taken at the Full Governing Body meeting this week to have another two-week October half-term next year. I list below the holiday dates for 2015-16:
|Non Student Day:||Tuesday 1 September 2015|
|Half Term Holiday:||Saturday 17 October to Sunday 1 November 2015 inclusive|
|Christmas Holiday:||Saturday 19 December 2015 to Sunday 3 January 2016 inclusive|
|Non Student Day:||Friday 12 February 2016|
|Half Term Holiday:||Saturday 13 February to Sunday 21 February 2016 inclusive|
|Easter Holiday:||Friday 25 March to Sunday 10 April 2016 inclusive|
|Bank Holiday:||Monday 2 May 2016|
|Half Term Holiday:||Saturday 28 May to Sunday 5 June 2016 inclusive|
|Summer Holiday:||Saturday 23 July 2016|
Mandarin After-School Club
HRS has established links with the Jiangsu Centre for Chinese Studies and will be running a Mandarin after school club on Mondays starting in January. We need to know how many students are interested before we can give out any further information. There will be a maximum of 30 students and there will be a small charge per student. Students will not only learn how to speak Mandarin but will also gain an insight into the Chinese culture, history, customs and maybe even food at the end of the course. This is an amazing opportunity to have some fun and learn something different. Mandarin is the most widely spoken language in the world and it is becoming increasingly important for non-Chinese people to learn it.
Sign-up sheets will be available in the Languages department on Monday 15th December. Students must sign up by the end of Wednesday 17th December if interested.
Mrs T Green – MFL Department
The school would like to thank the PTA for the new portable speaker/docking station that we have been able to purchase from funds from the PTA. The PE department has already been able to blue-tooth it with an iPad and use the system to play a fitness test which students undertook.
Miss Booth, Head of PE said “We are absolutely thrilled with it. It is a shared resource and other departments have also already used it for assemblies”.
Mrs Fullerton, Chair of the PTA said “This was a great suggestion and I am very pleased that we were able to approve and afford it. It is a great moment when we start seeing the fruits of a newly formed PTA and one we should all be proud of”.

Easter 2015 Ski Trip – Change of Date
Please be aware that the date of the ski trip has changed from 27th March – 4th April to 2nd April – 10th April. This trip is for both students who have skied before and for those who have not. We will be staying just outside Kitzbuhel. The cost includes all ski hire, lessons, meals in the resort, evening activities, and insurance and transport costs. The skiing day starts at 8.30am when we head for the slopes. There are good beginner areas and many other slopes for all abilities. We return to the hotel at about 3.30pm before heading out for the afternoon activity. This is an action packed week with opportunities for swimming at the Aquarena in Kitzbuhel, 9 pin bowling, experiencing Austrian culture, quiz nights and games evenings. All of these activities are fully supervised by our staff, who know the resort very well.
This is a successful trip with many students taking part year after year. The trip costs £890 and application forms are available from Mr P Graves in ICT. If your son/daughter would like to attend, please make payment for the £200 deposit through the school’s ParentPay system. Please return the application form to Mr P Graves.
