The annual HRS public speaking competition saw Year 7 students joined by Year 6 pupils from Rodings, Great Dunmow and Stebbing Primary Schools.
Daniel Harris, Teacher of English and Key Stage 3 Co-ordinator, said: “Our annual competition raises awareness of public speaking and gave students an opportunity to speak in front of a large audience of peers, parents and teachers. They were all brilliant. They had really done their research and we could see how the Year 7 students’ confidence had grown since taking part in the competition last year.”
Speech topics included the power of social media, the effects of cyber bullying on teenagers and the harmful effects of computer games on young children’s minds.
The Year 6 winner team were from Great Dunmow Primary School and the Year 7 winning team were Yolanda Pinto, Emily Davis and Francesca Pankhurst.
Every student was given a certificate for taking part and the winners took a trophy back to their school.
