Key Stages » Year 7
In Year 7 we will be focusing strongly on thinking and learning skills in order to meet Government recommendations and to raise the attainment of our students. We have amended our Year 7 timetable to allow cross-curricular lessons every other Thursday – called Discovery Days. This will help make the transition from Primary to Secondary School much smoother for the students and allow form tutors to build stronger relationships with their tutor groups.
On Discovery Days the students will be covering the content set out by the National Curriculum for English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities and will also be taught vital skills that are proven to help students achieve to a higher level. Some of the skills covered will be:
Debating |
Self evaluating (written and verbal) |
On the other four days the students will follow the traditional five lesson structure whilst staff develop the students’ use of the skills taught on the Discovery Days.
Students' progress is kept under
constant review, and there is an opportunity to report on students' progress
each half term. Progress Checks ensure that students are not allowed to
'drift' and parents are kept fully informed of the progress of their children.
During Year 7 every student is taught the following:
| Art | Drama | English |
| French | Geography | History |
| Mathematics | Music | Physical Education |
| Religious Studies | Science | Spanish |
| Information Technology | Design & Technology: Product Design & Manufacture | |
| Design & Technology: Food | Design & Technology: Textiles | |
In mathematics students are grouped into broad ability bands.
