All students in Years 7 and 8 study Art at HRS, they learn a wide variety of techniques including drawing, painting, printing and clay. Students are encouraged to participate in activities within the community such as ‘The Big Draw,’ designing a front cover for the Dunmow carnival brochure, alongside other competitions too.
We offer courses in BTEC and GCSE Art & Design from Year 9 – students study a wide range of skills and techniques, developing their work in response to a variety of themes. The study of Art History and the context in which Art is made is an important part of the course, understanding and appreciating your own work and the work of others is an integral part of our teaching and learning. There are also Art & Craft clubs at lunchtimes and after school.
AS and A level Art & Design is offered from Year 12, students can also choose to study Photography in our well-equipped studio and Dark room. AS and A level students have their own studio space to work in outside of set lessons.
Trips to galleries are arranged for A level students. Visiting artists also run workshops so students can expand their knowledge and skills in areas such as ink creation, 3D design and painting.
