Information » External recognition

Specialist Humanities College:  The Specialist College status is public recognition of our excellence in Humanities provision (particularly, English, History and Religious Studies). It allows us to build on the key values that we stand for as a school, further strengthening the learning community within the school and becoming active partners in the wider community promoting growth, development and above all life-long learning. In 2008 the purpose built Learning Zone was opened for use by the school and community.

Investors in People:  Our achievement of the prestigious “Investors in People” Award, which was revalidated in 2008, demonstrates our commitment to continuing professional development. We have a very effective staff development programme, starting with a quality induction programme for the new staff.

Training Schools Status: We achieved Training School Status, accredited by the Department for Education and Skills in 2003. We provide high quality training for teaching and have established ourselves as a centre of excellence in this area. As part of our role we provide for Higher Education Bodies such as Anglia Ruskin University, Open University and the Royal Academy of Dance. We also play a key role in our partnership with the Mid-Essex Initial Teacher Training Consortium.  Our Initial Teacher Training programme, induction programme and Continual Professional Development programme have received very positive reports from Ofsted and the Local Authority.

Healthy Schools Award:  In 2003 the school obtained the Healthy Schools award offered by Essex County Council. The school was then awarded the Advanced Award in 2005 and the National Award in 2007. The Healthy Schools scheme is not just about healthy food: it looks at health in its widest context and includes the environment, relationships and our whole way of functioning.

Artsmark Silver Award:  In 2007 the school was awarded its Artsmark by the Arts Council England. This national arts award is given to schools that demonstrate a commitment to developing their arts provision – from drama to music, design to literature, dance to sculpture. The scheme also encourages schools to work in partnership with artists and arts organisations.
