This is an exciting and challenging time for Helena Romanes School. January 2004 saw the appointment of the new Headteacher, Simon Knight, who is committed to taking the school forward and who has approached his role with tremendous enthusiasm and a clear vision. He is well supported by his senior colleagues and a strong team of knowledgeable and effective teachers and support staff.

Summer 2008 saw the best GCSE results in the history of the school.  However, the Governors recognise that there are still aspects of the school which need improvement and our priority is to raise standards. Other key areas for improvement include the need to update our accommodation and resources to enable us to provide most effectively for our students. Simon Knight has the full backing of the Governing Body in raising the expectations that the school has of the students. Some important steps have already been taken to change the way they present themselves in school and outside and we have received very positive feedback from parents and members of the Dunmow community in the improved attitudes and behaviour of our students.

We are aware that some of the developments we are proposing have long term implications and will take time to show impact but we are confident that we are beginning to build an effective partnership between the Governors and the School in the widest sense, - Headteacher, staff, parents and students, - to make Helena Romanes the best it can be. We are committed to giving the best deal to the students.
