KS4 Maths Revision
We use EDEXCEL GCSE 9-1 and Pearson’s Publishing has revision materials for our syllabus including a box of revision cards.  Additionally, if your child is in Key Stage 4 and you are looking at getting them or replacing their scientific calculator, we recommend the Casio fx-991ES PLUS (currently around £18 on Amazon or Argos), due to the ability to solve algebraic equations with ease.
Mr R Birss – Head of Maths

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Jasmine Cressey (7JMP) who is now the British Champion for figure skating!  She took the title with a personal best, building on her previous successes of being number one for THE Under 16’s.

MFL – Year 7 students
After Christmas the Year 7 classes will be rearranged into sets. These will still contain quite a wide ability range and we will cover the same work in all sets.  The students will be informed at the first lesson back after the holiday so it would be extremely helpful if they could bring in all their MFL books on that day. They will be given new teachers and told which lessons will be for each language.

School Lunch Payments
The kitchen staff would like to make parents aware that their till systems (including the snack shack) can take up to one hour to update after a payment has been made on ParentPay.  Please can we ask that you try to add money to your child’s lunch account on ParentPay in plenty of time for the till systems to reflect any recent payments on their account.
Thank you for your cooperation

Information for parents of Year 10-12 students who want to become Doctors
National Medic Mentor Weekend is taking place on the 18th and 19th March 2017 at the University of London Stratford Campus.

There will be an ‘Insight into Medicine’ conference taking place on Saturday 18th March with  presentations from Royal Colleges, medical schools and a variety of doctors and medical students to help aspiring medics explore careers in medicine and help set up medical school societies at their respective schools.

On the morning of Sunday 19th March there is an optional UCAS lecture ‘Making it into Medicine’, about applying to medical school which includes 3 textbooks, lunch and free parent registration.  This comprehensive lecture will explain how enthusiastic students can make a competitive medical school application.

Parents are also encouraged to attend as there will be dedicated talks for them too.  It is a valuable opportunity for students to network with doctors and medical students learn about work experience opportunities and how to make a successful application.

Registration is £25 (excluding VAT) for the Saturday conference (£50 with parents).
The Sunday lecture costs £150 (excluding VAT).   Parking is free.

Students can register on the medic mentor website and find out more about the events: http://medicmentor.co.uk/national-medic-mentor-weekend/.

If your son/daughter is interested, please ask them to see me in the Careers Resource Centre so I can forward the organiser’s email to them.
