Uniform Expectations
Please may we remind you that girls who persistently roll their skirts to an excessively short length will be given several clear warnings that if they continue to do so they will be placed in school trousers for a period of time.  Failure to do so will result in the student being placed in isolation for the day and parents will be contacted to request that the girls comply with wearing trousers the following day.

Parents of any boys who are wearing non-regulation skinny trousers are also requested to obtain the correct school trousers from Trutex or Jacks of Dunmow.
Thank you for your co-operation.

Ski Trip to Kitzbuhel, Austria (Easter 2017)
We are running a ski trip to a small Austrian village called Aurach, a few miles outside of Kitzbuhel during the first week of the Easter Holiday 2017.   It is a resort and package, which gives the students an excellent experience with not only the opportunity of excellent skiing but also to enjoy the cobbled streets and atmosphere of the historic town of Kitzbuhel. This is a resort I know very well having taken groups there for the last twenty five years.  Once the skiing events for the day are over we arrange a late afternoon and evening programme of activities which include an exploration of Kitzbuhel, swimming, a quiz, a games competition, 9-pin bowling, a visit to The National Park Centre and a race presentation evening.  All these activities are included in the price quoted.  This trip is aimed at students of all ski experiences.  Complete beginners will be offered the opportunity of a dry slope visit prior to the trip.

Dates: Friday 31st March to Saturday 8th April 2017.
Cost: £940.

The cost covers travel, insurance, ski school (6 days x 4 hours) and ski hire equipment in the resort and full winter sports insurance.  Clothing and dry slope lessons are not included.

Letters are available from Mr Graves.  If you have questions regarding the trip please email Mr Graves at pgraves@hrs.education.

Uttlesford Schools Careers Fair – ‘Routes to Success’
Following the success of the previous Uttlesford Careers Fair in 2014, we are delighted to announce that a further event is being organised this year.  The 2016 Uttlesford Schools Careers Fair will take place on Thursday 13th October, 2016, and will be hosted in Saffron Hall at Saffron Walden County High School.

The Careers Fair is open to all students and their parents from Helena Romanes School.  It is never too soon to start thinking about possible career progression options and we would encourage students and their parents from all year groups to attend and start to explore the career opportunities that exist.  The event will run from 5 – 9 p.m. with more than 50 companies and Higher Education providers manning stands and giving talks during the evening.

The event will offer students and parents an excellent opportunity to talk to representatives of universities, colleges, apprenticeship providers and national and local employers about the range of educational, training and employment opportunities that are available to students when they leave school. Organisations represented include:

  • ARM Ltd, Cambridge
  • Grant Thornton UK – accountancy
  • Oxford University
  • Cambridge University
  • GSK
  • MAG Stansted
  • Kier Group –construction
  • Anglia Ruskin University
  • Cambridge Regional College

Careers Advisers will also be present to answer questions and provide support.

We very much hope that many students and parents will want to attend this event.  The venue has ample parking, is fully accessible and light refreshments will be available to purchase.

Please contact me if you have any questions about this event.

A Message from Student Reception
If you are bringing an item in for your child that they have forgotten, please be aware that it will not be delivered to them during lesson time, as this disrupts the lesson. They will be sent a note to collect the item from Student Reception during break or lunch.

MIND in West Essex has been given funding by Dunmow Round Table to run a Supporting Teenager’s Emotional Wellbeing course in Dunmow at the Uttlesford Community Hub.  The course starts on Thursday October 6th and details about the course can be found below.  This is not a course on how to teach parents to ‘parent’, but is an information course on what their teenagers may be experiencing.  Places are limited to a strict 12 maximum and it will be on a first come basis.

Supporting Teenagers Emotional Wellbeing
Being a teenager seems to be tougher than ever these days.  Parents want to support their teenagers but are often not sure how to do so for the best and sometimes it goes wrong and relationships suffer. This course for parents looks at common reasons for why teenagers behave as they do and ways to help.  Based on the successful workshops we have delivered to students in secondary schools, this course consists of three interactive one hour sessions and places are limited to twelve at each venue.

Dates: Thursday October 6th, 13th & 20th 7.30-8.30pm at Uttlesford Community Hub Dunmow.

Please contact Mike Ellen at mellen@mindinwestessex.org.uk to register your place.
