Great Dunmow Neighbourhood Plan – The Future of HRS
As you may be aware, Great Dunmow Town Council is consulting on a Neighbourhood Plan for the parish area.  The Plan is crucial to the future relocation of the School and we ask everyone to engage with the consultation process.

The Neighbourhood Plan Consultation is being held between 19th September and 31st October 2015. The Plan will contain policies aimed at managing growth in and around the town and, if adopted by Uttlesford District Council following consultation, it will become the long-term development plan for Great Dunmow.

This is an important document for the school, which has been engaged with the District Council in establishing the most suitable location and funding streams for building a new school and sixth form with larger playing fields, to the west of Great Dunmow. The Neighbourhood Plan includes policies for a new school and it is important that the details enable us to provide the new facilities our students deserve.

The replacement of the existing school to a new site is considered to be the best and most financially secure way the school can meet the increasing student numbers predicted from local population growth.  We have been working hard to secure a new site through the planning process and we ask for your support for the policies in the Neighbourhood Plan that provide for the new school site, replacement of the existing site with residential homes, and funding secured through other housing allocations.

The Neighbourhood Plan can be viewed on the Town Council web site at: http://www.dunmowneighbourhoodplan.org.uk/.

The Plan confirms that the capacity of school, at around 1,600 pupils, will soon need to provide for 2,000 students. The Town Council acknowledge that the District Council supports the relocation of HRS from the existing site to a new site south of Stortford Road.

Policies that are particularly important to the school are included on pages 50-59.  These concern the existing school site, which secures initial funding for the new school, a new site for the school and playing fields, and other residential developments that may contribute through planning obligations to fund the new school.

We ask parents and students to support these policies if they can, and comments that the policies should be flexible enough for the school to benefit fully from them. The school will communicate with the Town Council about the changes to the policies that would benefit the school most of all and we would welcome your general support for our engagement with them.
