Spanish GCSE Exams for 11A2 (VMN) and SP11C1 (VMN)
Students in 11A2(VMN) and 11C1 (VMN) are currently completing controlled conditions preparation during lessons ready for their examination on Monday 19th or Tuesday 20th January (day depends on class and student candidate number – each student has a specific date written in his/her planner).

Students should be memorising and practising their script at home.  Please support your child by checking that this is happening and, if possible, testing him/her.  Thank you for your support.

Year 8 Exams
Year 8 will be sitting exams from Monday 9th to Friday 13th February.  These will help determine their pathways for their options which they will be choosing after half term.  Students have been advised to start their revision now and time has been allocated during registration for quiet independent study to support them.  Students need to be proactive at this time if there are any areas of study they are unsure of.  If you have any queries please do not hesitate to get in contact.

Timetable to follow but all subjects will be examined at some point in this period.

Year 10 Girls’ DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus & Polio) & Meningitis C vaccinations
The above vaccinations will take place on Friday 23rd January 2015.

All Year 10 girls have been given letters to take home to be completed by their parents/carers and must be returned to Student Reception by Monday 19th January.

Please ensure your daughter has eaten breakfast the morning of the vaccination and that she either wears a short sleeved t-shirt or a top under her shirt.

Please be aware that there is NOT the option to have the vaccinations done separately at school for clinical reasons.  Should you be unhappy with your child having both vaccinations on the same day, the Meningitis C vaccine will be given as a priority here at the school and it will be the responsibility of the parent/carer to make alternative arrangements to get the DTP booster done at your GP surgery (this information has been given to me by the immunisation team).

Further information about the vaccination can be found on the following link:

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on Ext: 252.

Careers information for Year 11 Parents/Carers
Our independent Careers Guidance Adviser, Lyn Packer, has now seen many of the Year 11 students for interview, however there are still more to go.  Your son/daughter will be notified of the appointment and be given Careers Action Notes following the meeting to summarise the discussion which took place, and any action which needs to be taken.

Students should not be waiting until they have their individual appointment with Lyn to apply for Sixth Form places or courses at the local Colleges.  They can see me at break or lunchtimes in school if they need any help or guidance now.

Year 11 students can apply for more than one course or establishment, and evaluate their offers later on in the year when they may have more confidence in their expected grades. Lyn always encourages students to have “back up” plans just in case they are disappointed with their results.

All suitable Year 11 apprenticeship or job with training vacancies will be displayed on the noticeboard outside the Lower Dining Hall.   It would be to their advantage if your son/daughter gets into the habit of checking regularly.  Once Lyn and I have a list of Year 11 Jobseekers, we can inform students individually if employers contact the school with employment vacancies.

Students looking for Apprenticeships should ensure they register on the national apprenticeship website:  www.apprenticeships.org.uk so they can receive vacancy alerts tailored to their own interests.

Please be aware that we work hard to ensure that all the students in Year 11 have plans in place to ensure successful progression Post 16.
