English Novels
Students in the following years need to hand in their English novels:

•           Year 7 – ‘Holes’
•           Year 8 – ‘Hidden’ or ‘Noughts & Crosses’
•           Year 9 – ‘Martyn Pig’

If your child has not yet handed in their novel, to their English Teacher, please ensure they do so as soon as possible.  Failure to do so will result in a letter being sent to students requesting payment to replace any missing books.

Year 7 MFL Preferences
In Year 8 the curriculum changes from the two languages that have been studied in Year 7.  The MFL team will select a top set of dual linguists who will continue to study BOTH French and Spanish (three lessons of each language per fortnight) on each side of the timetable.  After the half term break, students will be asked to give a PREFERENCE, which we will try to accommodate.  In the past these ‘single linguists’ have all followed their preferences, but this cannot always be guaranteed.  These students will only study one language in Year 8 (six lessons of their preferred language per fortnight).

Please note that students can only continue at GCSE with the languages that they have studied in Year 8, for example, if they drop Spanish in Year 8, they will not be allowed to pick it up again in Year 9 as they will not have covered the required language needed to start the GCSE course.  Parents might like to discuss the possible outcomes with their children and the implications for later study at KS4 and beyond. The class teachers will also spend some time discussing the issues and answering questions.
